An Indian woman from Gujarat was shot dead in the United States during a suspected robbery attempt at a supermarket, her family has confirmed, according to NDTV.
The victim, Meghnaben Patel, 45, had been employed at the store in Virginia for the past decade. She hailed from Jantral village in Visapur district of Mehsana, where her parents, Karsanbhai Patel and Kapilaben, continue to reside.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information, sealed off the area and initiated an investigation. Special teams have also been formed to track down the accused.
A purported video circulating on social media shows a man entering the supermarket wearing animal-print pants, a full-sleeved jacket, a face mask and gloves.
He is seen speaking with a woman across the counter before placing his hands in his pockets and moving closer. Moments later, he pulls out a firearm from his jacket.
The footage captures him firing two shots at Patel, who collapses behind the counter. He then jumps over the counter and fires once more before fleeing the scene.
