eSanjeevani Crosses 50 Crore Consultations, Expands Specialist Care Through AIIMS

India’s national telemedicine service, eSanjeevani, has crossed 50 crore consultations as it expands from primary healthcare into specialist services, enabling patients to consult doctors at select AIIMS from their homes.
According to a government release, the platform crossed the milestone on September 15, recording 50,00,92,730 consultations across all 36 states and Union Territories. The cumulative figure represents consultations, rather than the number of individual patients served.
The service is designed to complement physical healthcare facilities by connecting patients with medical professionals remotely, particularly in rural, remote and underserved areas where seeking care can involve substantial travel.
UP TO 3 LAKH CONSULTATIONS DAILY
eSanjeevani facilitates approximately 2.5–3 lakh consultations a day. Its highest single-day tally stands at 6,30,315 consultations, according to the release.

A Nation Rebuilt
The platform supports more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online outpatient departments. It has 2,41,923 registered healthcare providers and operates in 15 languages, including English and 14 Indian languages.
The hub-and-spoke network connects local healthcare facilities with medical expertise at designated hubs, extending the reach of public health services.
WOMEN ACCOUNT FOR OVER 57% OF USE
Women account for 57.14% of the platform’s utilisation. People aged 46 and above account for 40.15% of consultations, including 16.25% involving senior citizens aged 60 and above.
The government said these usage patterns highlighted telemedicine’s potential to make care more accessible to groups for whom travel, time and logistical constraints can complicate visits to health facilities.
Patient-to-doctor teleconsultations for select specialities have been introduced at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna. These services allow patients to access specialist advice remotely from home.
The initiative aims to reduce long-distance travel and waiting associated with consultations at tertiary-care institutions. A phased expansion to other premier government institutions, including additional AIIMS, JIPMER and PGIMER Chandigarh, is envisaged.
The move extends eSanjeevani’s role beyond primary healthcare, creating links between community-level services and specialist medical expertise. Remote OPDs are intended to complement conventional in-person consultations.
AI SUPPORT AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE LINKS
The platform has integrated an artificial intelligence-powered Clinical Decision Support System, or AI-CDSS, to assist healthcare providers during consultations. According to the release, the system is intended to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of clinical decision-making.
The innovation received a Gold Award under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026.
eSanjeevani has also been integrated with the Emergency Response Support System, ERSS-112. The integration aims to connect emergency response services with remote medical expertise and improve coordination in providing medical support.
Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, eSanjeevani receives end-to-end technological development and engineering support from C-DAC Mohali. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare guides the platform’s continued development and expansion.
