Sunrisers Hyderabad’s explosive batter Abhishek Sharma roared back to form with the bat ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026, delivering a commanding performance in a pre-season practice fixture on March 21.
Representing Sunrisers Hyderabad ‘A’, Abhishek produced a stunning 94 off 42 balls, anchoring his side to a total of 253 for 9 in 21 overs.
The innings signalled a sharp return to rhythm following his aggressive 21-ball half-century in the recent T20 World Cup 2026 final.
The 25-year-old had endured a difficult start to that tournament, registering a hat-trick of ducks.
In response, he reached out to his childhood friend Shubman Gill for support, even requesting his bat in a bid to reverse his fortunes.
“Maine hi message kiya tha isko 3 ducks ke baad ke mujhe bat de de, isse pehle koi aur record bann jae (I told him to give me his bat before I ended up with an unwanted record),” Abhishek said during the recent BCCI Naman awards.

Reflecting on the exchange, he added, “Usne bola tha, tu kar lega (You’ll manage it).”
Gill, who currently leads India in ODIs and Tests, was asked whether he had offered any advice during Abhishek’s lean phase.
“No. 1 T20I batsman in the world ko kaun advice dega (Who is going to advise the world’s No. 1 T20I batter?),” Gill said.
Abhishek also made it clear whose bat he prefers the most when asked about his choice of equipment.
“Shubman ka hi (Shubman’s bat only)”
Gill responded with a light-hearted remark, saying, “Woh mere bat se hi khelta hai hamesha (He plays with my bat all the time anyway),” with a smile.
