A fresh social media controversy has once again put Virat Kohli in the spotlight, with fans reacting strongly to his activity on Instagram.
The latest episode revolves around a ‘like’ from Kohli’s account on a post featuring a South African influencer. The interaction quickly snowballed into a meme fest, with many users recalling his earlier “algorithm” explanation.
The incident involved Kohli liking an old post featuring influencer LizLaz and photographer Advait Vaidya.
It drew particular attention as Kohli does not follow the influencer. Within minutes, screenshots of the interaction began circulating widely, turning a minor action into a viral moment.
Social media users were quick to react, with several suggesting that it was another case of an “algorithm” issue linked to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart’s profile.
“Kohli liked this post on Instagram. Another paragraph loading on algorithm,” one fan joked online.

And the price of surviving it
Others came out in support of the former RCB captain, urging people not to overanalyse the situation.
“He is also human . That is his personal life. Don't interfere with it. Do your jobs man,” one Kohli fan wrote.
“Why do you guys make this much fuss about silly things, don't you people have other things to deal with?,” wrote another supporter.
The reactions also brought back memories of a similar controversy in 2025 involving Avneet Kaur. Kohli had then mistakenly liked a photo, triggering widespread debate and prompting him to issue a clarification.
"I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding".
Following the latest development, some fans expect Kohli to issue a similar statement, attributing the incident to an “algorithm mistake”.
Despite the off-field buzz, Kohli has maintained strong form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
In the previous match against the Lucknow Super Giants, he appeared as an Impact Player for the first time in his career and was dismissed just one run short of a half-century. His contribution, however, helped RCB secure an easy victory.
The innings also saw him rise to the top of the run charts this season while surpassing KL Rahul to become the Indian opener with the most sixes in IPL history.
