Teen Sensation Tanvi Sharma Scripts History, Wins Taipei Open for Maiden BWF World Tour Title

Seventeen-year-old Tanvi Sharma announced herself on the global badminton stage in emphatic fashion on Sunday, defeating Vietnam's sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh in straight games to lift the Taipei Open Super 300 title and claim the first BWF World Tour crown of her career.

The Indian prodigy needed just 36 minutes to outclass the experienced Vietnamese 21-16, 21-16, capping a breakthrough week with one of the biggest wins of her young career.

The triumph also earned Tanvi a place in the record books. At 17 years and 222 days, she became the youngest champion in the history of the Taipei Open and only the fourth Indian women's singles player to win a BWF Super 300-or-higher title.

Having finished runner-up at last year's US Open Super 300, Tanvi arrived in Taipei as one of India's brightest emerging talents. She left as a champion.

Coached by Park Tae-sang, the former mentor of Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, Tanvi showcased the fearless attacking game and composure that have rapidly marked her out as one of the country's most exciting badminton prospects.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) celebrated the milestone on X, calling her a "17-year-old. Record-breaker. Champion," while highlighting that she had become the youngest winner in the tournament's history.

Tanvi had booked her place in the final on Saturday with a commanding 21-17, 21-11 victory over fifth seed Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei, breaking another tournament record by becoming the youngest finalist ever at the Taipei Open.

With her maiden World Tour title now secured, Indian badminton appears to have found another teenage star ready for the big stage.
