It alleges that on January 11, 2026, after the divorce, Kom appeared as a guest on a long-running television programme with viewership in the millions. The interview was conducted before a live studio audience and then telecast to the public.

Kom, it says, made the statements intending to harm his reputation, and knowing or having reason to believe they would.

The complaint says an ordinary viewer would take her remarks to mean that he is dishonest, unfaithful, unemployed, financially parasitic and alcohol-dependent, that he misappropriated money from her bank accounts and that he abandoned his responsibilities towards his children.

It says these imputations lower his moral character, credit and standing as a spouse and parent, within the meaning of Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which covers defamation.

“HE SACRIFICED HIS CAREER”

The complainant says that before and during the marriage he gave up his own career and professional pursuits to support Kom’s boxing career. He says this contradicts her statement that he has no career and has never been gainfully employed.

The complaint describes Kom as an internationally renowned champion and public figure with a wide following who regularly appears on national television.

Onler said he had filed a criminal defamation case and that “she cannot keep defaming me.” He said he has no objection to Kom moving on with her life after the divorce, but does not want to be publicly blamed or defamed.

He added that he had refrained from discussing her personal matters in public despite the allegations against him.

Kom has previously accused Onler of cheating her of crores of rupees earned through her boxing career.

She has alleged that loans were taken in her name, her property was mortgaged and some assets were transferred into his name without her proper consent. Onler has denied the allegations. The two have four children.
