From record-breaking milestones to tactical calls and emotional tributes, IPL 2026 continues to deliver compelling storylines both on and off the field. Here’s a complete roundup of the biggest developments you need to know.

Tim David hits 1,000-run milestone in record time

Australian batter Tim David added another feather to his cap by becoming the second-fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru power-hitter achieved the milestone during his side’s clash against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

David scored a brisk 26 off 17 balls, striking three fours and a six at a strike rate of 152.94 before being dismissed by Axar Patel. Across 56 matches and 50 innings for Mumbai Indians and RCB, he now has 1,019 runs at an average of 36.39 and an impressive strike rate of 177.83.

This season, he has been in explosive form, scoring 173 runs in six innings at a staggering strike rate of 203.52, including a top score of 70*. Only Andre Russell has reached the 1,000-run mark faster in IPL history.

In the match itself, Delhi Capitals restricted RCB to 175/8 despite a strong start led by Phil Salt’s 63. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi picked up two wickets each to keep the scoring in check.

Joined by former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Shah chose to sit in the stands rather than the VIP box, underlining the inclusive spirit of the league.

On the field, KKR posted 180 after recovering from 32/3, thanks to Cameron Green’s 79 and crucial partnerships with Rovman Powell and Anukul Roy. However, Gujarat Titans chased down the target with five wickets in hand, powered by Shubman Gill’s 86.

Kagiso Rabada’s 3/29 played a key role earlier in restricting KKR. The win pushed GT to fourth on the table, while KKR remained at the bottom with no wins in six matches. Despite a three-match winning streak, GT’s net run rate remains only marginally positive.

Parthiv Patel explains Sundar’s limited role

Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel addressed questions around Washington Sundar’s limited bowling usage, attributing it purely to match conditions rather than fitness issues.

"There's no niggle. Washington Sundar is bowling really well. It's purely a conditions and match-up-based decision. On a surface like Ahmedabad, where there isn't much turn, it becomes difficult to use him effectively. If there were more left-handers at the crease, we would have definitely gone to him. It's just about finding the right situation to bring him into the game," Patel said.

He also dismissed concerns around the team’s middle order, insisting the strategy revolves around the top order finishing games.

"There's no real concern around our middle order. Our approach has been to rely on the top three to take the game deep and finish it, and that's something we continue to aim for. Naturally, that means the middle order doesn't always get enough deliveries, but players like Glenn Phillips (Glenn Phillips) and Shahrukh Khan are ready when needed. Ideally, we would like a set batter to finish games, but overall, there's no concern around that unit," he added.

CSK need Dhoni more than ever: Aditya Tare

Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Aditya Tare highlighted the importance of MS Dhoni’s presence in the side, especially given the team’s youthful composition.

"Chennai Super Kings need MS Dhoni more than ever. If he is fit to play, he has to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in any capacity. I would personally want him to keep wickets for the full 20 overs because he is excellent behind the stumps. No disrespect to Sanju's wicket-keeping, but you need that experience," Tare said.

He stressed Dhoni’s role as a mentor for young players in the squad.

"There is a lot of youth in CSK's line-up and their two debutants - Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer - need the guidance of someone as experienced as Mahi bhai," he added.

Tare also pointed to Dhoni’s calming influence in pressure situations.

"Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai has always been a great support to Ruturaj and to the bowlers. We have seen him constantly talking to the bowlers and guiding them, and that is something which will give an extra edge to Chennai against SRH," he said.
