After years of delays, trailer breakdowns and speculation, Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) is finally approaching its release date. Rockstar Games released its launch trailer on October 15, giving fans another look at Jason and Lucia, the protagonist couple at the centre of its next crime story. The game has been delayed and as netizens are, it has been dissected heavily and discussed endlessly. Here’s what Rockstar has revealed so far, and what we are keen to still find out.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect:

Release Date and Platforms

GTA VI is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has confirmed versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been officially announced, so PC players need to wait for further news.

The game was originally planned for autumn 2025 before being pushed to May 2026. In November 2025, Rockstar announced another delay, setting the current November date. The extra time, the company said, would help it deliver the level of polish players expect. The problem here remains that CD Projekt Red, which kept delaying its ambitious Cyberpunk 2077, ended up releasing a heavily bug-filled version of the game. After their last delay, senior game designer Andrzej Zawadzki and other staff members received death threats and they had to release it sooner than they had wanted.

Meet Jason and Lucia

For the first time in the main GTA series, the story revolves around a criminal partnership between a man and a woman: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the new Bonny and Clyde.

The new trailer reveals that Jason had a troubled past and a stint in the Army. He now works with local drug runners in the Florida Keys. Lucia, meanwhile, has recently been released from prison. She now wants a better life and is prepared to take risks for it.

According to Rockstar, an easy score goes wrong, drawing them into a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida. They, and you, will have to rely on each other to survive. The latest trailer offers more glimpses of their life together, including robberies, confrontations, love life and escapes.

We shall see how they hold a candle to the last protagonists from GTA V, Michael, Trevor and Franklin.

Welcome to Leonida

The game is set in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida. Its best-known city is Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami, and the setting where Thomas “Tommy” Vercetti first appeared in the 2002 game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

If you have played Vice City, expect neon-lit streets, beaches, swamps, highways and a sort of nightlife (read: Malibu Club) that rarely ends quietly in a GTA game. But Vice City is only one part of the map. Rockstar has also shown locations such as the Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.

If you kept getting lost in the busy streets of Liberty City in GTA III, buckle up.

A Colourful Cast of Characters

Jason and Lucia will not be doing everything on their own. There is Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend, who spends his time at home monitoring Coast Guard communications and entertaining conspiracy theories—similar to past archetypes like Lester Crest from GTA V. Boobie Ike is a Vice City businessman with interests in real estate. Dre’Quan Priest is an aspiring music mogul who hopes to make it big in the local music scene.

Then there are Real Dimez, a female rap duo trying to revive their music careers, and Raul Bautista, an experienced bank robber who is constantly looking for the next big score.

The characters suggest that the story will explore several sides of Leonida, from its criminal networks to its entertainment industry.

What the Gameplay Will Be Like

Rockstar released about a 30-minute-long presentation called An Extended Look on August 27 that was captured entirely using in-game footage on a PlayStation 5. It offered the clearest look yet at how GTA VI might play. Although, in-game looks sometimes fail to represent the OG gaming visuals.

The footage includes shootouts, police chases, driving and interactions with the world around the characters. It also shows activities such as basketball, scuba diving and boating. The game appears to offer plenty to do when players want a break from the main story.

What we still don’t know is how much freedom players get to interact with the world. Rockstar has not explained every gameplay system in detail, and footage from a trailer does not necessarily tell us how a feature will work when we are holding the controller.

The Music and the Latest Trailer

Music has always been a major part of the GTA experience and the sixth game looks set to continue this very tradition. Any older GTA gamer would remember creating their own music list for the radio.

Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, featuring 34 original tracks. Players can also expect in-game radio stations, a long series staple.

The launch trailer, released on October 15, features a new song, ‘Flower in a Hurricane’, from electronic duo Justice, with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The trailer gives us more glimpses of Jason’s and Lucia’s criminal life, but it is primarily a cinematic introduction rather than a detailed gameplay demonstration.

The Countdown Begins

With a release date of November 19, the wait is almost over, unless this developer, who made the much-acclaimed Red Dead Redemption series, decides to delay it. The trailers have introduced the central characters and given us a sense of the trouble they will get into. The extended presentation has also offered a glimpse of the world beyond the cutscenes.

With Rockstar’s history of delays, the real question is whether November 19 will finally be the day players get their hands on GTA VI.
