PM Modi Inaugurates Chennai Metro Phase II Stretch, Takes A Ride With CM Vijay

PM Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, built at a cost of around Rs 4,900 crore.
Following the inauguration, Modi travelled on the metro from Porur Bypass Station to Poonamallee Bypass Station and back. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was also present.
The visit also features a series of infrastructure and development projects spanning highways, railways, ports, energy and scientific research, according to an official release.
HIGHWAY PROJECTS WORTH RS 3,700 CRORE
Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for National Highway projects worth around Rs 3,700 crore, aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time and easing congestion.

He will inaugurate the 36-km, four-laned Vadugapatti–Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744, which is expected to improve access to pilgrimage, industrial and commercial centres. The 30-km, four-laned Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A will also be inaugurated to ease traffic movement around Madurai.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83. The project is intended to provide an alternative route around the town and improve traffic flow.
RAILWAY PROJECTS WORTH OVER RS 750 CRORE
Modi will dedicate the Karaikal–Peralam railway line and three rail flyovers in Coimbatore and surrounding areas. The flyovers are expected to reduce congestion at busy level crossings, cut waiting times and improve road safety.
He will also inaugurate five redeveloped Amrit Stations at Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi and Namakkal under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
PORT INFRASTRUCTURE TO GET A BOOST
The Prime Minister will inaugurate four infrastructure projects at Chennai Port: a paved storage yard, four export-import godowns, an upgraded cruise terminal and a Seafarers Club.
The projects aim to improve cargo storage and handling, expand warehouse capacity, modernise cruise passenger facilities and provide welfare and recreational amenities for seafarers.
At VO Chidambaranar Port, Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for eight major development projects focused on expanding cargo and container capacity, supporting cleaner maritime energy and improving logistics.
He will also inaugurate the Coal Berth-3 project and lay the foundation stone for capital dredging works for Container Terminal Phase-I, Stage-II, at Kamarajar Port.
RS 1,620-CRORE LUBE OIL PROJECT IN CHENNAI
Modi will lay the foundation stone for a Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited's existing Manali Refinery.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs 1,620 crore, will have a capacity of 270,000 metric tonnes per annum. It aims to produce base stocks used in manufacturing premium-quality lubricants in India.
IIT MADRAS BRAIN CENTRE TO BE DEDICATED
The Prime Minister will dedicate the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras to the nation and launch a global scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains into three-dimensional atlases at cellular resolution.
The project will cover the human lifespan, from the foetal stage to old age. Modi will also release C-STROKE, a human ischaemic stroke atlas featuring more than 1,000 annotated microscopic sections from a stroke-affected brain. The atlas is expected to help researchers identify new therapeutic targets.
Modi will also participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
The institution marks 50 years of contribution to education, emphasising academic excellence, discipline, cultural values and holistic learning. Its motto, “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye”, translates to “Knowledge that liberates”.
