The making of a medical and social emergency
Earlier in the day, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team took to the skies over Varanasi ahead of the programme. The event at Namo Ghat formed part of the celebrations marking the Indian Air Force’s 94th anniversary.
Before attending the aerial display, PM Modi inaugurated a new garment manufacturing facility of Arvind Limited in Varanasi. The facility is expected to strengthen the region’s textile and apparel manufacturing sector, attract industrial investment and create employment opportunities. The predominantly women-led initiative also highlights the government’s emphasis on women’s participation in the workforce and women-led development.
The Prime Minister received a welcome from women carrying BJP flags and the national Tricolour, showering flowers and playing traditional drums as he arrived in his parliamentary constituency. Eight welcome points were arranged along the route from Varanasi Police Lines to Namo Ghat, with women and other groups greeting him.
Poonam Maurya, Varanasi District Panchayat president, said PM Modi had consistently supported women since taking office, helping them gain self-respect, become self-reliant and build confidence. She added that women in Kashi were eager to welcome the Prime Minister, who represents the constituency in Parliament.
