Gujarat has consolidated its position as India’s leading renewable energy state, emerging as the country’s largest contributor to clean power capacity and a frontrunner in rooftop solar adoption.
As of December 31, 2025, Gujarat’s cumulative renewable energy capacity has reached 42.583 GW, accounting for 16.5% of India’s total renewable capacity. The milestone aligns with India’s long-term net-zero target for 2070 and the interim goal of sourcing 50% of electricity from renewables by 2030.
Gujarat ranks first in total installed renewable energy capacity (42.583 GW), wind power capacity (14,820.94 MW) and rooftop solar installations, with over 11 lakh systems generating 6,412.80 MW. Gujarat comes second in solar power capacity (25,529.40 MW), underscoring the state’s diversified and balanced renewable portfolio.
Solar power anchors Gujarat’s clean energy push, with 25.53 GW installed by December 2025. This includes 17.77 GW from ground-mounted projects, 6.41 GW from rooftop solar, 1.17 GW from hybrid projects, and 173 MW from off-grid systems, including PM-KUSUM. Gujarat accounts for over 25% of India’s rooftop solar installations, supported by sustained incentives since 2016 and schemes such as PM Surya Ghar.

A pioneer in wind energy, Gujarat’s installed wind capacity stands at 14.82 GW, led by Kutch (7.48 GW) and supported by districts such as Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Amreli and Rajkot. The state has also commissioned 2.4 GW of wind-solar hybrid projects, backed by policies that encourage land availability, grid evacuation and project flexibility. More than 80% of wind turbines are installed on government-allotted land.
Gujarat’s renewable rise is underpinned by a robust policy framework—from India’s first Wind Power Policy (1993) to the Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025, which streamlines tariffs, grid connectivity, storage integration and consumer participation.
Digital facilitation through the Akshay Urja Setu portal has improved ease of doing business, while the sector has generated an estimated 2.37 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
As of December 2025, 5,203 projects are under implementation, representing 68.37 GW in the pipeline. Gujarat has set an ambitious target of 105 GW by 2030, aiming to contribute 20% of India’s 500 GW non-fossil capacity goal.
