TARGETING DRUG NETWORKS AND THEIR FINANCES
Shah said the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026–29 reinforced the commitment to disrupt trafficking networks, target their finances and protect young people.
“Under the Nasha Mukt Bharat vision of PM Modi, the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-29 reaffirms our resolve to dismantle drug networks, strike at their financial foundations and safeguard our youth. The fight against drugs will continue with unwavering resolve,” he said.
Assam Police conducted the statewide operation on October 12, following intensive preparatory action, as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Alongside the arrests and seizures, police executed 73 non-bailable warrants and apprehended 47 absconders, including 10 from other northeastern states. Properties valued at approximately ₹31 crore are being processed for seizure, attachment or freezing.
Authorities also processed 157 proposals under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
ENFORCEMENT AND AWARENESS DRIVE
The wider campaign included 2,229 raids under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, inspections of 3,662 business establishments and surveys of 2,943 educational institutions.
Authorities reported the seizure or destruction of 134,539 litres of liquor, including Indian Made Foreign Liquor. Another 633 awareness programmes reached 112,532 citizens and students.
The Assam action comes amid the nationwide 100-week Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan, which began on September 18 with a Rashtriya Sankalp Samaroh.
The Department of Youth Affairs, through Mera Yuva Bharat and the National Service Scheme, organised pledge and signature campaigns across educational institutions and youth units. The initiative seeks to encourage community participation in building a drug-free India.
According to an official release, the National Service Scheme’s launch activities covered 300 identified educational institutions across states and Union Territories.
