Delhi Police has granted permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 30, and the show will go ahead as scheduled. The decision followed several meetings between police officials and the organisers, who presented detailed security plans to address police concerns.

On Friday afternoon, BookMyShow issued a statement saying that reports of the Diljit Dosanjh AURA India Tour concert in New Delhi being cancelled were inaccurate. “Permission for the event had been temporarily withheld, not cancelled, and the two should not be confused,” it said.

Given the festive season and the “heightened caution it calls for,” the company said, Delhi Police had asked the organisers, BookMyShow Live, to put additional safety, traffic and crowd-management measures in place. BookMyShow Live held a “cordial meeting” with the police, presented a detailed plan and assured them of full compliance with all security and traffic requirements. On that basis, it said, permission was reconsidered and issued.

“We with Delhi Police are committed to ensure a good experience to the attendees as well as local commuters,” the statement added.

HOW THE ROW UNFOLDED

The clearance comes a day after the show looked to be in doubt. On Thursday, Delhi Police had denied permission for the concert, citing security concerns and the festive season, which put the opening night of his India tour in question.

Fans were left unsure whether the show would go ahead, and BookMyShow’s listing still showed October 30 at JLN Stadium. Diljit himself posted a reminder of the date, writing “Aura India Tour. 30 October, JLN Stadium, Delhi.” He also warned fans on Thursday about online scams ahead of the concert and urged them not to share personal data.

THE AURA INDIA TOUR

Delhi is the first stop of the Aura India Tour. After it, the tour moves to Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata. The India leg is part of the singer’s wider Aura tour, which has played North America, Europe and Australia, and which has run on large-scale stadium shows known for their production and their multi-generational crowds.

THE SINGER

Fans are eagerly awaiting the Punjabi singer’s first Delhi show of the tour. He has performed at some of the biggest venues in the world, including Madison Square Garden in New York and Wembley Stadium in London, where he became the first Punjabi artist to headline and sell out the stadium.

He has also drawn record crowds elsewhere: his 2024 show at BC Place in Vancouver was billed as the biggest Punjabi concert ever held outside India.
