Bond vs Thor? Pierce Brosnan Is Joining Chris Hemsworth in Extraction 3

What happens when James Bond walks into the world of Tyler Rake? Netflix may have just given action fans a pretty entertaining answer.
Pierce Brosnan, the former 007, has joined Chris Hemsworth in Extraction 3, bringing one of Hollywood’s most recognisable spy faces into Netflix’s high-octane action franchise. The film is currently being shot in Australia, with Brosnan among five new cast additions announced for the third instalment.
And while Netflix is keeping Brosnan’s character — and the plot — firmly under wraps, the casting itself is enough to get fans talking.

James Bond meets Thor
For a generation of moviegoers, Brosnan is James Bond. He played 007 across four films — GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day — between 1995 and 2002.
Hemsworth, meanwhile, needs little introduction. Before becoming Tyler Rake, the Australian actor spent more than a decade wielding Mjolnir as Marvel’s Thor.
Now put those two men in the same action franchise.
One brought a tuxedo, a Walther PPK and a licence to kill. The other has spent the Extraction films surviving bullets, explosions and seemingly impossible missions. Forget Bond vs villain. This is Bond meets Thor.
But Brosnan isn't playing 007 again
There is one important catch: don't expect Pierce Brosnan to turn up as James Bond with a secret Netflix assignment. Brosnan is joining the Extraction franchise as a new character, although details about his role have not been revealed. Netflix has similarly kept the film's plot under wraps.
What we do know is that Hemsworth is returning as Tyler Rake, the former black-ops mercenary at the centre of the franchise. Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are also returning, while Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry and Siena Agudong have joined Brosnan as new cast members.
Tyler Rake is getting more company
This isn't just another sequel quietly adding a few new faces. Netflix has been expanding Extraction beyond Tyler Rake. The first two films — released in 2020 and 2023 — both reached No. 1 on Netflix's global Top 10 for English-language films, according to the streamer.
The franchise is now growing into a larger action universe, with an Extraction series led by Omar Sy and the South Korean spin-off TYGO, starring Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk and BLACKPINK's Lisa.
That makes Brosnan's arrival even more intriguing.
Could he be an ally? An adversary? Someone with a connection to Tyler Rake's next mission? For now, Netflix isn't saying.
The action is heading home for Hemsworth
There is another fun twist to all this: Extraction 3 is filming in Australia, Hemsworth's home country.
Sam Hargrave, who directed the first two films, is back behind the camera, while the Russo brothers' AGBO remains involved in the franchise. The production has already been spotted filming across New South Wales, with Hemsworth, Brosnan and Elba among the stars in Australia for the shoot.
The release date? Still under wraps.
So for now, there is no trailer, no plot and no clue about what Brosnan's character is doing in Tyler Rake's increasingly chaotic world.
But there is one thing we do know.
Bond and Thor are sharing the screen. And that alone makes Extraction 3 a little harder to ignore.
