The developments come amid reports of a possible shift in Washington’s military posture.

According to The Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump was considering ending the US military campaign in Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Why is the US planning to wind down Iran military operations despite Strait of Hormuz closure?

He indicated to aides that he is prepared to wind down military operations within a four to six week timeline despite the waterway being effectively shut.

The report said this approach would likely extend Tehran's control over the strategic route while shifting focus to diplomatic efforts to reopen it.

Trump has expressed willingness to wind down hostilities after achieving key objectives such as weakening Iran's navy and missile capabilities.

Administration officials said the President believes the US can declare victory by meeting its "core" military goals without engaging in a prolonged maritime clearance mission.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Security Committee approved the Strait of Hormuz Management Plan on Monday, according to Iranian state media Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. The plan includes measures to impose tolls on vessels passing through the waterway.

What are the key features of Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Management Plan?

A member of the National Security Commission said the plan outlines security arrangements, ship safety, environmental protection, financial mechanisms and a rial based toll system.

It also bans passage for American and Israeli vessels, reinforces Iran’s sovereign role over the Strait and calls for cooperation with Oman on a legal framework.

Countries participating in unilateral sanctions against Iran are also barred from passage.

The measures come amid an ongoing conflict in West Asia between Iran and the US Israeli coalition, now in its second month, and underline Tehran’s efforts to assert control over one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints through which a significant portion of global oil shipments transit.

In a separate development, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that a fire aboard the Kuwaiti oil tanker Al Salmi has been successfully extinguished.

The incident caused damage to the vessel’s hull and raised concerns about a possible oil spill.

The tanker was carrying 2 million barrels of oil from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and was en route to Qingdao in China. All 24 crew members are safe and no injuries have been reported.

In a post on X, the Dubai Media Office said, "Dubai authorities have confirmed that response teams have successfully extinguished the fire involving a Kuwaiti oil tanker. Relevant teams continue to assess the situation and take the necessary measures, and updates will be shared as they become available."
