Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew and the younger brother of King Charles III, has been arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest comes amid ongoing investigations linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and marks a significant escalation in a case that has shadowed the British royal family for years.

Why Has Andrew Been Arrested?

According to Thames Valley Police, a man in his sixties from Norfolk was arrested on February 19 as part of an ongoing investigation. The force confirmed that searches were being carried out at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk and that the suspect remains in custody.

In a statement, the police said, “We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.”

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright of Thames Valley Police said, “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

The arrest is reportedly connected to investigations linked to Jeffrey Epstein, whose crimes and network of associates have been under renewed scrutiny following the release of additional documents by the US Department of Justice.

What Are the Allegations?

Authorities are reviewing claims that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew. Police are also examining allegations that Andrew shared sensitive information with Epstein during his tenure as the UK’s trade envoy.

Andrew has previously denied all allegations. He has stated that he never witnessed or suspected any of Epstein’s criminal activities. He has not publicly commented on the latest misconduct in public office allegations.

Where Did the Arrest Take Place?

Police reportedly arrived early Thursday at Sandringham, the private Norfolk estate of King Charles III, where Andrew had recently relocated after vacating his long-time residence at Windsor.

The Sandringham estate falls under the jurisdiction of Norfolk Constabulary, which confirmed it is supporting the Thames Valley Police investigation.

The arrest follows months of mounting pressure on Andrew. In October, King Charles III stripped him of his title as prince amid renewed scrutiny. Proceedings were also initiated to remove him from his Windsor residence, where he had lived since 2003.

Reports indicated that Andrew relocated to Norfolk after the holiday season and was to be provided accommodation on the King’s private Sandringham estate, along with financial support.

Wider Investigation Underway

The case appears to extend beyond a single jurisdiction. At least seven British police forces, including Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley Police, Norfolk Constabulary, Essex Police, Bedfordshire Police, West Midlands Police and Wiltshire Police, are reviewing or assisting with enquiries related to disclosures in the Epstein files.

The involvement of multiple agencies underscores the scale and sensitivity of the investigation, as authorities navigate both criminal allegations and the intense public interest surrounding a former senior member of the British royal family.

As the case is now active, further details are expected to emerge through official updates, with law enforcement urging caution to avoid prejudicing legal proceedings.
