A public rift has erupted within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as the sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan openly accused the party’s leadership of abandoning him at a critical legal and medical juncture, intensifying political tremors in Pakistan.

Why Did Imran Khan’s Sisters Lash Out at PTI Leadership?

The sisters of former Pakistani Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan strongly criticised the party’s leadership for what they described as “complete silence” and inaction regarding his ongoing legal cases.

Speaking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court, Aleema Khan, accompanied by Uzma Khan and Noureen Khanum, directly questioned the absence of senior party figures in pursuing Khan’s cases.

"Where are Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa and Barrister Ali Zafar? Why are they not pursuing cases?" Aleema asked, as quoted by Geo News.

The sisters had reached the court seeking updates on multiple cases filed against Khan. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also arrived at the court and attempted to meet Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar, according to reports.

Uzma Khan echoed the criticism, alleging that the party had distanced itself from both the legal and political fight surrounding its founder.

"The party leadership is nowhere to be seen, and there is complete silence," she said, as quoted by Geo News, adding that the family is often left uninformed about developments.

What Is the Status of Imran Khan’s Legal and Political Battle?

The 73-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been in custody since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases that he has claimed were politically motivated after his removal from office in the 2022 parliamentary vote.

Aleema Khan underlined that despite his incarceration, her brother remains the axis of national politics and the party he founded.

"He is our brother, and politics revolves around him. We will speak for our brother, no matter what Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi does," she asserted, as quoted by Geo News, adding that the family would continue raising its voice for Imran Khan, regardless of party statements.

Aleema further alleged that PTI lawyers who are now members of parliament had failed to follow instructions to file legal petitions on Khan’s behalf. She also questioned why statements by the Interior Minister blaming the sisters had not been addressed by the party.

"If the family had been kept satisfied and informed, the situation would have been better," Aleema said, as quoted by Geo News, calling the leadership's actions "shameful".

She specifically criticised Barrister Gohar Ali Khan for failing to get cases fixed in the Supreme Court and high courts even after assuming the post of party chairman.

The sisters also accused the leadership of making independent decisions without consulting the family.

Are There Fresh Concerns Over Imran Khan’s Health?

Beyond legal disputes, Khan’s health has emerged as a significant concern amid ongoing tensions between the government and the opposition.

According to a report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan by his lawyer and the court’s amicus curiae, Barrister Salman Safdar, Khan was transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for treatment of a diagnosed eye condition. He received a second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, the hospital confirmed.

Highlighting concerns over medical care, Aleema alleged that government doctors were being pressured and demanded that the family’s own medical team be granted access.

"No action or decision relating to Imran Khan's health can be taken without our consultation," she added, as quoted by Geo News.

The sisters have demanded that the PTI leadership clarify its position and take immediate steps regarding both the legal and medical matters concerning the party founder — a demand that has now placed the party under intense public scrutiny.
