The iPhone Duo Has Landed
For months, it had been rumoured that Apple was going to come out with a foldable phone. On September 9, during its event, speculation was laid to rest when its new CEO, John Ternus, after introducing the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the AirPods and Apple Watches, echoed the famous line of its founder Steve Jobs: “There is one more thing.”
The iPhone Duo has two displays with a hinge joining them. To make the crease in the middle nearly invisible, the screen has a nano texture finish. The hinge is made up of more than 100 precision components. When folded, the iPhone Duo is passport-sized that neatly fits into the pocket or hand. Unfolded, it is a 7.6-inch tablet with a 50 per cent larger display than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The phone can multitask, with each display panel showing different apps or different windows of the same app. There are altogether four cameras, including a main and an ultra-wide in the rear, both 48MP.

The iPhone Duo is a phone that can double as both a productivity and an entertainment tool, and Apple terms it the most transformational change to the iPhone since the original. It is not cheap. Prices start at `2,99,900 for the 256GB variant. The 2TB version costs `4,49,900. Pre-orders begin on October 16 with the phone going on sale on October 23.
AI Agents on WhatsApp
WhatsApp is allowing users to connect up to five third-party AI agents to an account through API keys. They will appear as chats but not have access to other conversations. They can’t be added to groups. Meta’s own AI is already inbuilt into WhatsApp but third-party inclusion will allow users to manage external work through WhatsApp chats. It is only being tested with some users at present.
Planning War Robots
The PLA Daily is the official paper of the Chinese defence forces and, after the success of the World Humanoid Robot Games, it has called for planning to make robots combatants. A Reuters investigation found that China is raising tenders and doing other groundwork. With most of worldwide humanoid robots manufactured in the country, it has a readymade industrial base to cater to military needs.
AGI Marketing
After OpenAI released its latest frontier model, GPT-6 Astra, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang wrote on X, “From ChatGPT too1 to Astra in 4 years. AGI has arrived.” AGI or artificial general intelligence is when AI matches the ability of humans in all-round thinking. His statement is however considered a marketing ploy given that in the same post he plugged how 100,000 Nvidia GPUs were used in training the model.
