While fans around the world wait for his return, Messi has not set a timeline for when he will be back on the pitch.

According to reports in the Argentine media, cited by French outlet Foot Mercato and Goal.com, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has decided to prioritise his family over football for now. Inter Miami is understood to have given its captain the time and space he needs as he mourns the loss of the man who shaped much of his life and career.

The Man Behind Messi's Rise

For the football world, Jorge Messi was known as Lionel Messi's father. For Messi himself, he was much more.

Jorge played a central role in every stage of the Argentine legend's journey. After working as a supervisor at a steel factory, he became his son's agent and closest adviser, managing contracts, career decisions and public affairs as Messi grew into one of the greatest footballers of all time.

He was also instrumental in one of the most important moments of Messi's childhood. When Messi was just 13, Jorge helped facilitate his move from Argentina to Barcelona's famed La Masia academy. Barcelona also agreed to cover the cost of Messi's treatment for growth hormone deficiency, a condition that had threatened his football dreams. The treatment ultimately helped the young prodigy continue his remarkable rise.

No Return Date Yet

Messi has not publicly indicated when he will resume training or return to competitive football. Reports suggest he will remain with his family in Argentina before making any decision about his comeback.

Jorge Messi is survived by his wife, Celia Cuccittini, and their four children: Lionel, Rodrigo, Matias and Maria Sol.
