Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles came together in New Delhi for 'Manobal', an event celebrating the partnership between the Australian High Commission and KHUSHII (Kinship for Humanitarian Social and Holistic Intervention in India).
The programme focused on strengthening people-to-people connections between India and Australia while drawing attention to the social initiatives undertaken by the KHUSHII Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Kapil Dev praised the growing relationship between India and Australia and acknowledged the efforts made by both governments to deepen cooperation.
"About the relationship between Australia and India, the governments are working very hard. For what Australia is doing for the Indian community there, I'd like to say thanks on behalf of them. What a wonderful job Indian people are doing, and they are looking after our people. I'm so grateful that people are getting together and trying to help KHUSHII. It's an organisation where we look after each other and look after underprivileged kids. If we can try to engage with each other, it will be very nice," Kapil Dev told reporters.
His remarks highlighted not only the diplomatic relationship between the two nations but also the role of communities and charitable organisations in building stronger international connections.
KHUSHII is a non-governmental organisation established by Kapil Dev in 2003. The foundation was created with the vision of providing quality education and holistic learning opportunities to young Indians, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
Over the years, the organisation has focused on supporting children's education and development through various social initiatives.
Richard Marles lauded the work being carried out by the foundation and said it was a privilege to witness its impact firsthand.

Is the future of fashion Indian?
"It is an honour to be here with Kapil Dev at the KHUSHII foundation to see the incredible work they have been doing. The relationship between India and Australia is at a high watermark at every level. We have never been more strategically aligned. It is a privilege for me to be here," Marles said while speaking to reporters.
His comments underscored the importance of civil society partnerships alongside government-to-government engagement.
Both Kapil Dev and Richard Marles used the occasion to underline the growing strength of India-Australia ties.
While Kapil Dev thanked Australia for its support of the Indian diaspora, Marles described bilateral relations as being at a "high watermark" and said the two countries have never been more strategically aligned.
Their remarks reflect the broader trajectory of India-Australia cooperation across strategic, economic, cultural and people-to-people spheres, with initiatives such as Manobal serving as platforms to strengthen these connections further.
The Manobal event showcased how diplomatic partnerships can extend beyond government engagement to include education, community welfare and social development. Through the KHUSHII Foundation, Kapil Dev continues to advocate for underprivileged children, while the participation of Richard Marles highlighted the growing depth of the India-Australia relationship.
