Gujarat Titans delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs in their IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Despite being restricted to 168/5, Gujarat turned the game on its head with a devastating bowling display, bundling out Hyderabad for just 86 in 14.5 overs. The result significantly reshaped the points table, pushing Gujarat to the top with 16 points, while Hyderabad remained third with 14.

Why did SRH collapse so dramatically?

Hyderabad’s chase never really got going. The innings began on a disastrous note when Travis Head was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Mohammed Siraj in the very first over.

The pressure only intensified as Kagiso Rabada struck early blows, removing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, leaving SRH struggling at 29/3. Rabada continued his dominance by dismissing Smaran Ravichandran, reducing the side to 34/4 at the end of the powerplay.

Though Heinrich Klaasen and Salil Arora attempted a brief recovery, the innings fell apart again when Prasidh Krishna broke the partnership. Soon after, Jason Holder delivered the decisive blows, removing Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy in quick succession.

From 60/7, there was no way back. Holder picked up his third wicket, while Krishna dismissed skipper Pat Cummins. Rashid Khan cleaned up the tail, sealing a crushing collapse.

How significant is this defeat for SRH?

The total of 86 marked Hyderabad’s lowest-ever all-out score in IPL history. It also became the second-lowest total against Gujarat, only behind Lucknow’s 82 in 2022.

The defeat highlighted a rare failure for SRH in chases, as it was the first time since 2024 that they could not successfully pursue a target below 200. It also continued Gujarat’s dominance over Hyderabad, registering their sixth win in seven completed matches between the two sides.

What made Gujarat’s bowling so effective?

Gujarat’s pace attack was relentless and clinical. Rabada and Holder led the charge with three wickets each, dismantling the top and middle order. Krishna provided crucial breakthroughs, while Siraj and Rashid ensured there was no late resistance.

The performance also marked only the second instance of Gujarat seamers picking up nine wickets in an IPL innings, underlining the pace unit’s dominance.

How did Gujarat Titans set up the win?

Earlier in the match, Hyderabad’s bowlers had actually done well to restrict Gujarat to 168/5. Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with a composed 61, while Washington Sundar added a valuable half-century.

Hyderabad struck early through Praful Hinge, who dismissed Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler cheaply, leaving Gujarat at a modest 34/2 in the powerplay.

However, a stabilising partnership between Sudharsan and Sundar rebuilt the innings. Sundar’s aggressive 19th over, where he scored 18 runs, pushed Gujarat past the 150 mark before being dismissed in the final over.

What does this result mean for the points table?

With this emphatic win, Gujarat Titans climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 standings with 16 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad, despite the heavy loss, remained in third place with 14 points but will be concerned about their net run rate and batting inconsistency heading into the crucial phase of the tournament.
