Gujarat Titans have been dealt an unexpected challenge ahead of the IPL 2026 final after severe weather conditions delayed their journey to Ahmedabad, leaving them with less than 24 hours to prepare for their title clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The Titans booked their place in the final by defeating Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 on Friday. They were scheduled to travel from Chandigarh to Ahmedabad on a chartered flight on Saturday afternoon. However, heavy rain and stormy weather across north-western India, particularly in Punjab, disrupted airport operations and delayed several flights departing from Chandigarh.
As a result, the team reached Ahmedabad only around 10:30 pm on Saturday, significantly reducing their preparation and recovery time before Sunday's summit clash.
The travel disruption has been amplified by this season's playoff scheduling.
The BCCI staged the IPL playoffs across three different venues, creating a unique logistical challenge. According to reports, this is the first time an IPL finalist has been required to travel just one day before the title match.
Having played Qualifier 2 on Friday, Gujarat Titans had little margin for delays. Once adverse weather intervened, the team found itself racing against time to arrive in Ahmedabad and prepare for the biggest game of the season.

RCB appear to have benefited from a more favourable schedule.
The Bengaluru-based franchise arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday after winning Qualifier 1. The additional time has allowed the players to rest, recover and train ahead of what will be their second consecutive IPL final appearance.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar acknowledged that the timing could offer his side a slight edge, although he stopped short of calling it a decisive factor.
"After Qualifier 1, we got enough time to rest and recover. At the same time, GT are coming straight from Qualifier 2. There is some sort of advantage, but not a huge one because both teams are very good and have played excellent cricket," Patidar said.
While weather disrupted Gujarat Titans' travel plans, current forecasts suggest clear conditions for the final in Ahmedabad.
Nevertheless, weather remains a major talking point because of the city's recent IPL final history. Ahmedabad is hosting its fourth IPL final, and fans still remember the rain-hit 2023 title clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
That match spilled over to the reserve day after rain interruptions. Organisers eventually extended the playing window by two hours, and the contest concluded in the early hours of the morning.
Gujarat Titans are chasing their second IPL title.
The franchise enjoyed a dream debut season in 2022 by lifting the trophy. They came agonisingly close to retaining the title in 2023 but fell short in one of the most dramatic IPL finals in the tournament's history.
On that occasion, Chennai Super Kings secured victory off the final ball, with Ravindra Jadeja producing late heroics to seal CSK's fifth IPL crown.
Now, despite a weather-disrupted build-up and limited preparation time, Gujarat Titans will hope to overcome the odds and reclaim the trophy against a well-rested RCB side in Ahmedabad.
