When Lucknow Super Giants needed a replacement opener for their crunch IPL 2026 fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they turned to 21-year-old Arshin Kulkarni. A name unfamiliar to many casual cricket fans, Kulkarni carries a quietly impressive resume across formats. Here is everything you need to know about the Maharashtra batter suddenly in the spotlight.
Arshin Kulkarni is a 21-year-old opening batter and medium-pace bowler from Maharashtra. He made his T20 debut at the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, immediately making his presence felt. He scored 121 runs in six matches that season at a strike-rate of 163.51, finishing as Maharashtra's second-highest run-scorer, only behind Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Kulkarni is not new to IPL cricket. He made his IPL debut for LSG in 2024 after being signed for INR 20 lakh. His returns of nine runs in two games led to his release, but the franchise bought him back at the IPL 2025 auction for his base price of INR 30 lakh. He did not get a game last season.
He was brought into LSG's playing XI to replace Josh Inglis, who injured his hand in the game against Mumbai Indians on May 4. This was Kulkarni's first appearance in IPL 2026, making the occasion a significant one given RCB's formidable line-up.

Kulkarni was part of India's squad at the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. He scored 189 runs in seven matches at an average of 27, including a century of 108 against the United States. He also contributed with the ball, picking up four wickets at 16.75 each.
Kulkarni has scored 549 runs in 21 T20s at a strike-rate of nearly 140, with a top score of 89 not out. In List A cricket, he averages 53.77 across nine matches, including two hundreds and two fifties. His top score of 114 came against a star-studded Mumbai side in January 2026. He also has 605 first-class runs from 11 games at 37.81.
With Inglis injured and LSG desperate for points to keep their faint playoff hopes alive, Kulkarni could find himself with more than one opportunity this season. His strike-rate in domestic T20 cricket and his ability to contribute with the ball make him a genuine all-format asset.
Whether he can translate that form to the IPL stage remains the question, but the raw material is undeniably there.
