Ishan Kishan’s 20 off 18 balls was a modest contribution amid the boundary-hitting that powered India to 211/6 against Pakistan in the Asian Games final. But it carried him to a landmark only one Indian batter had reached before.

The wicketkeeper-batter crossed 1,000 T20I runs for 2026 during Saturday’s gold medal clash in Aichi-Nagoya, joining Suryakumar Yadav as the second Indian to reach four figures in the format in a calendar year.

His innings included three fours and followed a far more substantial contribution in the semifinal against Sri Lanka, where his unbeaten 80 off 46 balls had given India’s bowlers a total to defend.

The milestone places him alongside Suryakumar, who became the first Indian to score 1,000 T20I runs in a calendar year in 2022.

Suryakumar finished that year with 1,164 runs in 31 matches, averaging 46.56 at a strike rate above 187. His season included two centuries and nine fifties.

Kishan is now 159 runs short of that Indian record.

WHO HOLDS THE CALENDAR-YEAR T20I RECORD?

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan holds the calendar-year record among batters from Test-playing nations. In 2021, he scored 1,326 runs in 29 matches and 26 innings, averaging 73.66 at a strike rate above 134, with a century and 12 half-centuries.

The overall record belongs to Austria’s Karanbir Singh, who amassed 1,488 runs in 32 matches and innings in 2025. He averaged 51.31, struck at more than 174 and registered two centuries and 13 fifties.

Those totals remain ahead of Kishan, but reaching 1,000 has already put his 2026 campaign among India’s most productive years in the format.

ABHISHEK AND TILAK POWER INDIA TO 211/6

India elected to bat after winning the toss, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi providing an early burst of 15 off nine balls, including two sixes.

Abhishek Sharma then supplied the innings’ first major assault, smashing 61 off 28 balls with three fours and seven sixes. Kishan contributed 20 and captain Shreyas Iyer made 21 before Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube accelerated towards the finish.

Tilak struck an unbeaten 51 off 22 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes. Dube added an unbeaten 27 off 15, hitting a four and two sixes, as India finished on 211/6.

The innings’ biggest blows belonged to others. Kishan’s landmark reflected the runs accumulated across a year.
