BJP workers began celebrating as Rath established a substantial lead. Speaking to ANI, she credited the party’s organisation, leadership and workers.

“I am grateful to our organisation, our leadership, and our BJP workers who didn’t rest day or night and worked for the party,” Rath said. “They fought this battle for Suvendu Adhikari. Victory to the people of Nandigram, and victory to Suvendu Adhikari.”

BJP AHEAD IN REJINAGAR

In the Rejinagar Assembly constituency, BJP candidate Shakaharavh Sarkar had polled 48,101 votes, followed by Golam Nabi Azad with 13,600 and Trinamool Congress candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhary with 2,516.

Congress candidate Abdullahil Kafi had received 2,407 votes, while CPI(M) candidate Mohd. Sayeed had polled 1,212.

Both West Bengal constituencies voted on October 6.

The Nandigram seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari won from two constituencies in the Assembly elections earlier this year and chose to retain the other seat.

The Rejinagar bypoll followed the resignation of Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir, who had also won from Nowda.

BJP LEADS ASSAM’S NAGAON LOK SABHA BYPOLL

In Assam, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma was leading the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll by 3,16,570 votes.

All India United Democratic Front candidate Badruddin Ajmal had polled 2,20,833 votes, while Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora had received 57,364.

The seat became vacant after Pradyut Bordoloi quit the Congress, joined the BJP and subsequently won the Dispur Assembly constituency in the 2026 Assam elections. The Congress had won Nagaon in both the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Counting was underway on Friday for five Assembly seats across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, along with the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat.
