Beyond the three major private operators, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) reported 27.37 million broadband subscribers, while Atria Convergence Technologies Ltd. had 2.40 million users.
Private sector dominance remains overwhelming in the wireless segment.
"At the end of March 2026, the private access service providers held 92.64% of the market share in terms of wireless (mobile) subscribers, whereas PSU access service providers viz. BSNL and MTNL together held a market share of 7.36%," the TRAI reported.
India’s overall tele-density rose to 93.26 per cent at the end of March, highlighting the deepening reach of telecom services across the country.
Urban tele-density stood at 151.47 per cent, indicating multiple connections per user in cities, while rural tele-density was recorded at 60.46 per cent.
Excluding M2M cellular mobile connections, the national tele-density stood at 84.57 per cent.
The March data underscores not just continued growth, but also a broadening of India’s digital base, with rural markets playing an increasingly important role in the sector’s expansion.
