Cameron said she had the opportunity to engage with people across government, business, education and civil society during her time in India. She credited their efforts with expanding cooperation and creating opportunities across both economies.

As she prepares to return to London for a new assignment, Cameron said India would always hold a special place in her heart. “I leave incredibly proud of what we've achieved together and really excited about what comes next,” she said.

She also expressed confidence in her deputy, Ben Miller, who will take over as Acting High Commissioner. Signing off, she said, “Phir Milenge India, we'll meet again soon.”

FROM NEW DELHI TO THE UK FOREIGN OFFICE

Cameron has been appointed Permanent Under-Secretary at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), becoming the first woman to hold the position.

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced her appointment on September 10, citing her experience in diplomacy, development and national security, as well as her leadership in international postings, most recently in India.

Miliband said Cameron would lead the FCDO in advancing British values and priorities by drawing on the capabilities of its personnel. He also thanked Nick Dyer for serving as Interim Permanent Under-Secretary.

INDIA-UK TIES AND THE VISION 2035 ROADMAP

The two countries have sought to deepen cooperation across trade, defence, education, technology, innovation and climate action. The India-UK free trade agreement has been a central part of efforts to expand economic ties, while Vision 2035 sets out a broader framework for long-term cooperation.

Cameron’s departure comes as both sides look to build on this engagement and translate diplomatic agreements into tangible benefits for businesses and citizens.
