A British broadcast engineer working on IPL 2026 coverage was found dead in a south Mumbai hotel, police said on Tuesday.

The 76-year-old British national was found dead at the Trident Hotel.

Jan William Langford, who was on assignment with the BCCI for IPL matches, was discovered unconscious in his hotel room on Monday morning. He had checked into the hotel on March 24.

According to authorities, Langford returned to his room on the night of March 29 after covering the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede stadium.

The following day, hotel staff attempted to contact him, but there was no response despite repeated calls to his room.

Concerned over the lack of response, hotel staff used a master key to enter his room. They discovered Langford lying on the floor.

The hotel management rushed him to Bombay Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, an official told news agency PTI.

Nothing suspicious was found in his postmortem examination, said a Marine Drive police station official.

A case of unnatural death has been registered, and further enquiries are underway, the official added.
