The Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament will be held from July 21 to August 12, 2025, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced. This will be the first parliamentary sitting following Operation Sindoor, a high-precision counter-terrorism mission launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, most of them tourists.
The session’s schedule was recommended by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. As one of the key annual sittings of Parliament, the Monsoon Session typically focuses on reviewing government policies, debating budgetary priorities, and passing legislative bills.
Given the backdrop of recent security developments, national defence is expected to dominate the agenda. Parliament is likely to witness intense discussions on the implications of Operation Sindoor, along with proposals to strengthen the country’s security apparatus. The session is expected to provide an important platform for both government and opposition parties to debate these urgent concerns and pursue a unified, strategic response to threats to national security.
Alongside defence matters, the government is also expected to push forward several key bills and long-pending reforms. With public policy and governance challenges evolving rapidly, the session is seen as critical in keeping legislative processes aligned with national priorities.
Significantly, an impeachment motion against former Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma is also expected to be tabled, with the government actively seeking political consensus on the matter.
In the wake of the limited conflict with Pakistan, India dispatched seven cross-party delegations—comprising lawmakers and policy experts—to 33 countries to reinforce its case against cross-border terrorism. The outcomes of these diplomatic efforts may also come up for review during the session.
