Pahalgam attack: US snubs Pak journalist in display of support for India
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce
In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 28 lives, the United States has reiterated its “unwavering” support for India, while publicly snubbing a Pakistani journalist during a State Department briefing.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, addressing the press, firmly shut down a question from a Pakistani journalist regarding Indo-Pak border tensions, saying, “I am not going to be remarking on it… I will say nothing more on that situation. The President and the Secretary have made their positions clear.”
Bruce underscored that both President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had “strongly condemned all forms of terrorism” and expressed deep solidarity with India. “We pray for the lives of those lost and pray for the recovery of the injured and call for the perpetrators of this heinous act to be brought to justice,” she added.
The firm exchange came days after President Trump extended unconditional support to India. Indian security agencies have named Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its chief Hafiz Saeed as the masterminds of the Pahalgam attack, carried out via its proxy outfit named The Resistance Front (TRF).
The targeting of tourists, officials say, was a calculated attempt to fuel communal tensions and stoke separatist narratives in the region.
The US response, particularly the public dismissal of the Pakistani journalist, is being viewed in New Delhi as a significant diplomatic signal. “Washington is no longer entertaining the old playbook,” said one Indian official, noting that this was among the strongest coordinated US responses to a terror incident in Kashmir in recent years.
