I BELIEVE KEIR STARMER is arguably the worst prime minister of the UK. Never before have I seen such a weak and directionless England. And it is not about political leadership, nor about identity politics, nor, for that matter, just about taxes. It is about a total lack of leadership and direction emanating right from the top. This is particularly pertinent at a time when global geopolitics is in flux, and the point is that no one in Starmer’s government recognises either the perils of the England of today or, for that matter, what Rachel Reeves is undoing as chancellor of the exchequer.

The cabinet is full of prized dolts who have no idea of how to govern, or what to do, or, more importantly, the policies to follow, and this has resulted in England becoming a basket case.

It is losing its economic prowess, it is losing its global heft, and what’s worse, the country’s reputation today stands sullied like never before. One would have never imagined that England would come to such a pass where just one government with zero policies and a negative mindset would overturn years of economic direction.

The fact that people are leaving England in droves is a testament to the flawed policies of the government of the UK. And there seems to be no hope because waiting in the wings is Nigel Farage of Reform UK whose entire agenda is Trumpian: to foster identity politics, to stoke Islamophobia, and create a sense of panic and peril for the average citizen of the UK.

The first action hero

Read Now

The UK today is isolated from the global ecosystem, it is isolated from within the European Union, and it is rudderless. The debate in England now is about whether the Chinese should be allowed to build a larger-than-life embassy rather than seeking investments from countries across the world. Such is the failure of the UK government to read the tea leaves, and we are seeing this in every element of society.

Earlier, it was always said that London was isolated from the rest of Great Britain—what you saw in London was a bubble and was not symptomatic or emblematic of the general position in the UK. But today, London has fallen.

In such an environment, why would anyone want to invest?

Leadership is what leadership does. Leadership defines itself not through ideology but through actions, and those actions have to be taken within the remit of a global ecosystem because everyone across the world is now interdependent. The fact that Starmer almost succumbed to every whim and fancy of Donald Trump doesn’t make him a hero. Nor has he been able to alter the headwinds hitting England from an economic perspective.

Peril and panic are the twin pillars of societal destruction. They help no one because they don’t provide strategic direction but destroy, and destroy as we are seeing it happen in England today. I have often wondered why things have come to such a pass. The state of England today is clearly rotting.
