US Issues Middle East Security Alert Amid Speculation Over Iran Strikes

The United States has urged Americans across the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance and prepare for possible travel disruptions, amid speculation about further US military action against Iran.
In an October 18 security alert, the US Embassy in Amman warned that hostilities involving Iran-backed groups could escalate rapidly beyond their immediate locations. It advised Americans travelling to or from the region to monitor airline and airport operations and prepare contingency plans.
The embassy also cautioned that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target American citizens, businesses, institutions and other locations associated with the United States.
IRAN STRIKE OPTIONS UNDER DISCUSSION
The advisory comes as CNN, citing US officials familiar with military planning discussions, reported that Washington had developed additional strike options against Iran, including the potential use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast weapon, commonly known as the “mother of all bombs”.

The reported planning does not establish that a decision to launch strikes has been made.
Tensions have also sharpened following President Donald Trump’s public endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s elections. In a Truth Social post, Trump warned that the United States and its allies would “soon finish the job” if Iran did not change course.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on X by warning that Tehran was prepared for further escalation. He also accused Netanyahu of pushing Washington towards another war.
AIRPORT DISRUPTIONS IN SAUDI ARABIA
An earlier US advisory for Saudi Arabia warned of further attacks and flight disruptions following reported missile and drone strikes on airports in the kingdom.
According to that advisory, operations at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport remained suspended, while airports in Jeddah and Dammam continued operating amid delays and cancellations. American government employees were required to obtain special authorisation before using any Saudi airport.
The advisory said international airports in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates remained operational at the time. Travellers were urged to confirm the latest position directly with airlines and airports.
PRECAUTIONS FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS
The Amman embassy advised Americans to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, follow local authorities’ instructions, keep mobile phones charged and enrol in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for security updates.
During an aerial attack, citizens should stay away from glass doors, windows and fallen debris, the advisory said.
The alert comes as early voting begins in parts of the United States ahead of the November midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress. The supplied report establishes no connection between the electoral timetable and any potential military action.
The US Embassy in Amman said it remained open for routine American citizen and visa services.
