At least three victims had sustained serious injuries, while nine others were reported to be in stable condition, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) said in an update at 11.30 pm.

“Early findings indicate a physical altercation occurred prior to the shooting,” the police statement said.

The TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, with detectives working to establish the circumstances of the shooting and identify those responsible.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell expressed concern over the injuries, particularly those suffered by children, and praised officers who helped victims before the scene was fully secured.

“It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured,” Revell said, adding that officers had risked their own safety to carry victims to safety and transport them to hospital.

The police department said the investigation remained active and that details were preliminary and subject to change as investigators gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.
