Iran's national football team paid tribute to their supporters with an emotional handwritten note after securing a hard-fought draw against Belgium at the FIFA World Cup 2026, a result that kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stages firmly alive.
Following their second Group G match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Iran's players left a handwritten message expressing gratitude to fans and reflecting on the pride they felt representing their country on football's biggest stage.
According to Iranian news agency ISNA, the note was left in the locker room after the match.
"From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilised Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast," the note read.
"We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour and leave with dignity. Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality. And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes. May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations," the message added.
The gesture came after another determined display from Team Melli, who followed up their 2-2 draw against New Zealand with a goalless stalemate against Belgium.

Iran owed much of their point against Belgium to goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, who delivered a standout performance between the posts.
The 33-year-old made seven saves during the match, including four diving stops and three high claims, while also preventing an estimated 1.70 goals. His display earned him the Superior Player of the Match award.
Belgium pushed for a winner throughout the contest but were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when defender Nathan Ngoy was sent off.
Despite the pressure, Iran's defence held firm to secure a valuable point against one of the tournament's traditional contenders.
With two draws from their opening two matches, Iran sit second in Group G and remain well-positioned to challenge for a place in the Round of 32.
Egypt lead the group after defeating New Zealand, while Belgium are third and New Zealand remain at the bottom of the standings.
Iran will now head to Seattle for their final group-stage fixture against Egypt on Saturday. A positive result could be enough to secure qualification for the knockout rounds and cap an impressive start to their World Cup campaign.
