‘Everything in Our Power’: Putin Offers to Help Iran Resolve Conflict With US and Israel

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday pledged to help Iran resolve its regional conflict with the United States and Israel, telling Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Moscow was ready to do “everything in our power”.
The leaders met in Turkmenistan, where they discussed the conflict, diplomatic proposals and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Putin welcomed what he described as Iran’s efforts to secure a peaceful settlement.
“We know that Iran is making concrete efforts to end the conflict that broke out in the region through no fault of its own,” he said, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. “Iran has once again put forward new proposals to resolve the situation by peaceful means.”

“You know our position, Mr President. For our part, we are ready to do everything in our power to help you resolve this situation,” Putin added.
IRAN SAYS IT WILL CONTINUE NEGOTIATIONS
Pezeshkian said Iran would remain engaged in negotiations despite what he described as repeated attacks during previous rounds of talks with Washington.
“We are in talks, but every time we engage in dialogue with America, they attack again; however, we will not withdraw from the negotiating table,” he said, according to Iranian news agency ISNA.
The Iranian president said both sides had put forward proposals and that Tehran had revised the latest American proposals.
“Once they are finalized, we will sit down through intermediaries to wrap them up,” he said.
According to the Iranian president’s official website, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States Summit and the Caspian Sea Environmental Summit.
RUSSIA AND IRAN DISCUSS TRADE, JOINT PROJECTS
Putin said relations were developing positively under the two countries’ treaty, signed early last year. Bilateral trade grew by more than 21 per cent in 2025, with that trend continuing through the first seven months of 2026, he said.
The two leaders discussed cooperation in energy, agriculture, transportation and trade, as well as accelerating the finalisation and completion of joint projects.
Putin also highlighted cultural and humanitarian exchanges and asked Pezeshkian to convey his best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
TRUMP RULES OUT ATTACKS BEFORE MIDTERMS
The meeting came as US President Donald Trump said Washington was holding “productive discussions” with Tehran and would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections.
In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump said the blockade on Iranian maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would remain in force. He also reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Trump claimed that oil was flowing through the strait in record volumes, with no barrels coming from or going to Iran.
His statement followed reports that the Pentagon had been instructed to prepare for a possible resumption of major combat operations against Iran, potentially before the midterms.
