ChatGPT, the widely used artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, went down for thousands of users across the globe, with the company confirming that it is "investigating" an issue affecting both the chatbot and its Codex platform.
According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks outages by collecting status reports from multiple sources, more than 2,000 users had reported problems by 8:40 PM.
The disruption appeared particularly acute in the United Kingdom, where over 7,600 reports of issues were recorded around 8 PM IST.
In the United States and India, the figure stood at over 1,700 reports each around the same time.
Most users reporting problems to Downdetector flagged issues specifically with ChatGPT. The majority of those affected found themselves greeted with a now-familiar message upon attempting to use the service.
That error message has been appearing across the ChatGPT app for affected users.
OpenAI's official status page attributed the disruptions to "degraded performance," with the issues cutting across almost every core feature of the platform, from login and standard conversations to voice mode.
