1. What have Oman qualified for?

The 10-team global qualifier for the 2027 men’s ODI World Cup. Oman finished fourth in Cricket World Cup League 2, joining the United States, Scotland and the Netherlands in advancing directly from that competition. Their World Cup place is still to be earned.

2. How did they advance despite losing?

Oman and Namibia both finished with 33 points from 36 matches, but Oman’s superior net run rate settled the contest. Their final figure of minus 0.224 edged Namibia’s minus 0.278. Earlier results provided enough protection to survive seven consecutive defeats at the end of their campaign.

3. What happened against the UAE?

Oman lost their final League 2 match in Dubai by 42 runs on November 4. Chasing 227, they slipped to 28 for three and finished on 184 for nine. Mujibur Ali scored 65. Earlier, Shakeel Ahmed took three for 42 as UAE posted 226 for eight.

4. Why must co-host Namibia qualify?

Hosting does not guarantee Namibia a playing spot. Automatic host qualification went to South Africa and Zimbabwe, the two ICC Full Members staging the tournament. Associate member Namibia must negotiate the qualification pathway, despite preparing to welcome World Cup matches on home soil.

5. Are Namibia and the UAE eliminated?

Both remain in contention through the eight-team Qualifier Playoff. Namibia, Canada, Nepal and UAE join Jersey, Kuwait, Italy and Uganda. Four teams will advance to the global qualifier. Oman’s fourth-place finish therefore saves them an additional tournament and another possible elimination.

6. Who awaits Oman at the global qualifier?

Ireland and West Indies, who missed automatic World Cup qualification through the ODI rankings, join the four League 2 qualifiers. Four more teams arrive from the playoff. The resulting 10-team competition will determine the World Cup’s remaining four participants.

7. Why will finishing position matter there?

Winning the qualifier brings direct entry to the World Cup group stage. The second-, third- and fourth-placed teams enter its opening Super Series, where only one progresses to the groups. Oman’s challenge therefore extends beyond making the top four: finishing first offers a considerably shorter route.
