QUICK TAKE | Barcelona Beat Aston Villa 3–0 and Yamal Breaks Mbappé’s Record. Here Are Seven Things to Know

1. How did Barcelona take control?
Seven minutes in at a rain-soaked Camp Nou, Lamine Yamal intercepted a pass as Aston Villa tried to play out from the back and curled in the opener. Barcelona took that 1–0 lead into half-time. Raphinha put the game beyond Villa after the break.
2. Which record did Yamal break?
At 19, Yamal became the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history. His opener was his 14th goal in the competition, taking him past Kylian Mbappé’s 13. Yamal had equalled the record on the previous matchday, in Barcelona’s defeat in Paris.
3. When did Raphinha finish the job?
The Brazilian doubled Barcelona’s lead in the 52nd minute and added his second in the 64th. UEFA named him player of the match. The brace took him to four Champions League goals this season, level with nine others, including Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, after Tuesday’s games.
4. How good had Villa been?
Unai Emery’s side had won all three of their league-phase games, scoring 12 goals and conceding three. They had spent more minutes in the lead than any team in the competition before Matchday 4. At Camp Nou, they were chasing the game from the seventh minute.

5. What did it mean for Emery?
The Villa manager turned 55 on matchday, back in his native Spain. Barcelona have now beaten his teams 22 times in 31 meetings. This defeat also ended Villa’s run of three straight Champions League wins.
6. How did Barcelona jump above Villa?
Both clubs had nine points after four matches, but the three-goal win swung their goal differences in opposite directions. Barcelona moved to plus eight and Villa slipped to plus six, leaving them second and third respectively at the end of Tuesday’s games.
7. What comes next for Barcelona?
Hansi Flick’s side travel to Sabah on November 25 and host Manchester City on December 8. The top eight in the league phase go straight to the round of 16, giving Barcelona a clear target across their four remaining games.
