Grief struck the Chennai Super Kings camp as fast bowler Mukesh Choudhary lost his mother, Prem Devi, on Tuesday following a year-long illness.

She was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Tata Hospital, where she passed away.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, Choudhary rushed to his hometown in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, immediately after CSK’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. He performed the last rites alongside his elder brother, Dr Rajesh Choudhary.

The pacer, who has featured in just one game for CSK this season, reportedly rejoined the squad ahead of their match against Mumbai Indians. However, other reports suggested that he will take a short break and is expected to be available for the next match against Punjab Kings.

A report by OneIndia stated that MS Dhoni remained in constant contact with Choudhary during the difficult period and extended his support. He also took time out to visit Choudhary’s mother in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has been actively training at the Wankhede, spending nearly 40 minutes in intense batting and wicketkeeping drills. His presence in full practice sessions indicates steady progress in recovery from a calf strain that had ruled him out of the first six matches of the season.

In the Mumbai Indians camp, Rohit Sharma was seen batting in the nets on Wednesday in a controlled session. ESPNcricinfo reported that he mostly faced throwdowns and avoided big shots during his 25-minute stint, pointing to a cautious approach in his recovery.

The injury, sustained earlier this month on April 12, had already ruled him out of Mumbai Indians’ last two matches against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

If deemed fit to bat but not field, Rohit could be used as an Impact Player to manage his workload and reduce the risk of aggravating the hamstring strain.
