Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to start fresh after their respective opening fixture defeats in IPL 2026.
For KKR, the focus is firmly on team composition and the role of Cameron Green, when they meet SRH at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
The three-time champions are coming off a loss to Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2026 opener at the Wankhede last Sunday, and while there is ample time to turn things around, a more prudent approach to selection could be crucial.
KKR had invested heavily in Green during the last auction in their search for an all-rounder.
However, his recent performances, coupled with the fact that he is not a bowling option for KKR until Cricket Australia gives its nod, raise questions about rigidity in selection.
His outing against Mumbai Indians, where he scored 18 off 10 balls batting at No. 3, was not particularly effective.
Although it is still early in the tournament and dropping him may appear harsh, a flexible approach could better serve the team’s balance going forward.
Sunrisers Hyderabad find themselves in a similar situation after a defeat in their opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy last Saturday.

Yet, there are signs of encouragement in their camp, largely revolving around the return of regular captain Pat Cummins.
Cummins, who missed the season opener along with the T20 World Cup and four of the five Ashes Tests in Australia due to a lumbar stress injury, was present at training at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
His participation is expected to boost morale within the squad.
He underwent a fitness test for around a quarter of an hour before heading to the nets, where he bowled for at least half an hour to Ishan Kishan, Travis Head and others.
Cummins also took part in a Bronco test, a high intensity running-based fitness drill widely used in rugby to assess aerobic endurance, speed and mental resilience.
The test involves five continuous laps of 20, 40 and 60 metre shuttles, covering a total distance of 1,200 metres, with athletes aiming to complete it within five to six minutes.
The BCCI introduced the Bronco test for Team India cricketers last year.
With both sides seeking early momentum, KKR’s handling of Green and the potential return of Cummins for Sunrisers Hyderabad could play a defining role in Thursday’s contest.
