The Indian Premier League continues to be shaped by injuries, comebacks and tactical squad reshuffles, as franchises navigate a crucial phase of the tournament with shifting personnel and mounting pressure.
Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a major blow with left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a right quadricep injury during their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk.
In an official statement, the franchise said, “OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after sustaining a right quadricep injury in the game against KKR. Wishing Khaleel a speedy recovery. #WhistlePodu.” The statement further added, “The injury sustained will take more than 12 weeks to heal.”
The injury leaves CSK short on bowling options as they struggle in the lower half of the table, intensifying the challenge ahead.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have received a timely boost with captain Pat Cummins cleared to return after recovering from a lumbar stress injury. Recent scans in Sydney confirmed his recovery, and he is now eyeing a comeback on April 25 against Rajasthan Royals.
Cummins had been sidelined since Australia’s tour of the West Indies, but remained actively involved with the team during his rehabilitation. His return is expected to strengthen SRH’s push for a playoff spot, especially after a mixed campaign so far.

And the price of surviving it
Mumbai Indians have brought in 21-year-old all-rounder Krish Bhagat as a replacement for injured Atharva Ankolekar, as the five-time champions look to revive their faltering season.
The franchise highlighted Bhagat’s journey and effort, saying, “Krish has consistently impressed the MI coaching staff with his dedication, work ethic, and the quality he brings to every session and practice games that he played for the Mumbai Indians. His commitment and development over the years, both in domestic and at Mumbai Indians practice sessions this season, have earned him this well-deserved opportunity to transition into the main squad.”
Bhagat joins at his base price of Rs 30 lakh, adding fresh energy to a side currently struggling near the bottom of the standings.
