'His Name's Probably Vaibhav Sooryavanshi': T20 King Jos Buttler Predicts Who Will Break His Record

Jos Buttler had barely climbed to the top of T20 cricket before he started talking about the man who could push him off it. The England star became the highest run-scorer in T20 history on Wednesday, overtaking West Indies great Kieron Pollard with a blistering unbeaten 51 off just 20 balls for Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred.

But instead of celebrating how long the record might stand, Buttler looked into the future. And his answer came from India.

It was a remarkable endorsement from one of the modern game's greatest white-ball batters.

Buttler now sits atop the all-time T20 run charts with 14,833 runs in 522 matches, moving past Pollard (14,803 runs in 746 games) and Chris Gayle (14,562 runs), two giants who defined an era of T20 cricket. "It's really cool to think you've got the most T20 runs out of anyone," Buttler said, according to Cricinfo, before adding that records are made to be broken.

And if anyone is capable of doing it, he believes it is Sooryavanshi.

The 15-year-old has rapidly emerged as one of cricket's brightest young talents. After a standout Under-19 World Cup campaign, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament, Sooryavanshi carried that form into international cricket, smashing 151 runs in three T20Is against Zimbabwe to win the Player of the Series award as India completed a 3-0 sweep.

For Buttler, that was enough to make a bold prediction.

The England batter admitted he had hoped to overtake Pollard while playing against MI London, with the former West Indies captain watching from the dugout as head coach.

"It would have been nice to get past Polly while he was there," Buttler said. "There's some great names on that list, so I'm really proud."

The record itself came in trademark Buttler fashion. Chasing 156 against Welsh Fire, Manchester Super Giants made light work of the target as Buttler hammered an unbeaten 51 off 20 balls, decorated with two fours and six towering sixes, helping his side seal victory with nine wickets to spare.

For now, Buttler is T20 cricket's leading run-scorer. But if his prediction comes true, the next man at the summit could be an Indian teenager who has only just begun his journey.

And that may be the most intriguing part of Buttler's record-breaking day.
