England's preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 have encountered an unexpected hurdle after training equipment destined for the team's Kansas City base was reportedly stolen during transit. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with two persons of interest already taken into custody.
According to local police, a vehicle transporting England's training gear from the team's pre-tournament camp in Florida to Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City was broken into before the squad's arrival.
The equipment was being delivered ahead of England's first training session in the city, scheduled for Saturday.
"We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening," police said as quoted by Reuters.
"The investigation is ongoing. Two subjects of interest were taken into custody pending further investigation."
British media reports, cited by Reuters, said that footballs and boots were among the items believed to have been stolen.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that an investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the theft and recover the missing equipment.
While officials have not disclosed the full inventory of stolen items, the incident comes at a crucial stage of England's tournament preparations as the team settles into its World Cup base.

The Unravelling of an Alliance
England have been drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama as they seek to end a 60-year wait for a major international trophy, having last lifted the World Cup in 1966.
Thomas Tuchel's side will begin their campaign against Croatia on June 18 (IST). The 26-man squad combines established stars and emerging talent, led by captain Harry Kane and featuring key players such as Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
The squad also includes nine players set to make their debut at a major international tournament, among them Elliott Anderson and Morgan Rogers, reflecting a new-look England side under the German coach.
