Delhi Capitals on Monday handed a debut to young Maharashtra batter Sahil Parakh in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in New Delhi, marking a significant moment in the 18-year-old’s budding career.

DC skipper Axar Patel confirmed at the toss that Parakh would open the innings, replacing Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka. The decision underlined the franchise’s faith in the teenager, who was picked for Rs 30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction.

A left-handed batter who can also contribute with leg-spin, Parakh has steadily risen through the ranks with consistent performances in domestic and age-group cricket.

Rise through the ranks in domestic cricket

Born on June 7, 2007, in Nashik, Maharashtra, Parakh first made a mark in school and inter-school tournaments before progressing to Maharashtra’s Under-19 setup. His performances there established him as a dependable top-order batter.

He grabbed wider attention in 2024 when he smashed an unbeaten 109 off just 75 balls for India’s Under-19 side against Australia. The youngster further impressed in the 2025 Maharashtra Premier League, scoring 202 runs at a striking rate of 177.19 while representing Eagle Titans Nashik.

Parakh has also featured for Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, playing two matches and scoring 24 runs.
