SHAHEED SUKHDEV COLLEGE OF BUSINESS STUDIES (SSCBS) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi. It was founded in 1987 with the Bachelor’s in Business Administration as its flagship course. The journey started with three faculty members, 50 students and seven administrative staff members. After 34 years, SSCBS today boasts more than 1,200 students, 45 faculty members, 45 non-teaching members, three departments, four programmes and 40 student societies organising as many as 26 events throughout the year.
The college has introduced pilot courses at the University of Delhi to train undergraduates in management and finance. While a three-year Bachelor’s in Management Studies lays down the fundamentals of management, students can specialise in Management of Global Business, Marketing or Finance in their final year. For students who are interested in understanding the intricacies of the financial sector, the college offers a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Finance & Investment Analysis)—a three-year specialisation in finance and management.
Recognising the interplay of technology and management, the college also offers an honours course in Computer Science and a postgraduate diploma in Cyber Security and Law. The college offers multiple programmes to make students industry-ready. The wide portfolio of courses includes NCCMP (NSE-Certified Capital Market Professional), FMAT (Financial Modelling & Algorithmic Trading), FinTech, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence, and Digital Marketing, besides add-on courses with the Institute of Industrial Development.
SSCBS has been able to carve out a place for itself, thanks to its cutting-edge curriculum and case-based teaching methodology, which closely resembles the one followed in leading management institutions across the world. Professors at SSCBS come from renowned colleges, such as IIM-A, IIM-C, FMS, ICAI and IIT-Roorkee, among others. Most of the faculty members also hold certifications from professional bodies, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, All India Management Association and Delhi Management Association, to name a few.
The college has a healthy student-to-teacher ratio that allows the professors to pay individual attention to students. The faculty members follow a practical approach to management by utilising a blend of educative case studies of national and international relevance, presentations, group projects and research assignments.
For a successful placement season, the college provides mentoring for the students. It brings on board recruits from previous years to provide personalised mentoring to students through its ‘Buddy Project’
Internships and live projects are incorporated into the curriculum to provide hands-on experience to students. To empower students to become leaders in their chosen fields, the college hosts seminars with industry leaders from government, corporate and social backgrounds.
Despite the pandemic-fuelled turbulent job market, SSCBS was able to achieve one of its best-ever placement seasons. With more than 220 offers being extended, the college achieved 90 per cent placement, which was one of the highest across the University of Delhi. Further, the college saw a 150 per cent increase in the number of pre-placement offers being extended to students, a testament to their skillset. The college witnessed a 33 per cent increase in companies coming to recruit across the domains of finance, investment banking, management consulting, research, analytics and marketing.

To ensure a successful placement season, the college provides mentoring for the students. It brings on board successful recruits from previous years to provide personalised mentoring to students through its “Buddy Project”. With a mentor-mentee ratio of 1:6, students receive dedicated guidance for placement preparation.
Embodying the principle of “management with a heart”, students aim to use their management expertise to change the lives of people around them. One such initiative is ‘Project Raahat’, aimed at eradicating open defecation. Students acquired 55 toilet complexes around Delhi, not only improving sanitation but also helping 11 entrepreneurs earn a monthly income of `20,000, thereby impacting 2.4 lakh lives. Other projects include ‘Khidki’, with a focus on working towards eradicating malnutrition in children aged 0-6 years; Pravaah, a holistic clean air solution at an affordable price; and ‘Avya’, with an aim to providing potable water solutions to urban slum communities.
Home to SIIF (SSCBS Innovation and Incubation Foundation), the college serves as the heart and soul of the entrepreneurial community at the University of Delhi. SIIF provides mentorship and strategic support to startups, from ideation to the implementation stage.
The college now plans to integrate multiple learning avenues under one roof so that exposure to diverse career options is provided. The college will boost research output by setting up a finance lab in association with NSE/BSE, and introducing two new research publications.
