Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has publicly acknowledged that Indian forces bombed several key airbases, including the strategically significant Nur Khan Airbase, in the early hours of May 10.
“On the intervening night of May 9–10, around 2:30 AM, Army Chief General Asim Munir called me over a secure line and informed me that India’s ballistic missiles had struck Nur Khan Airbase and other locations,” Sharif said during a special ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ (Thanksgiving Day) event at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. Located just 10 km from the capital, Nur Khan Airbase is a vital logistical hub for the Pakistani military and also houses the PAF College.
A video of Sharif’s speech has since gone viral, attracting significant domestic and international attention. “Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif himself admits that General Asim Munir called him at 2:30 AM to inform him that India had bombed Nur Khan Air Base and several other locations. Let that sink in — the Prime Minister was woken up in the middle of the night with news of strikes deep inside Pakistan. This speaks volumes about the scale, precision, and boldness of #OperationSindoor,” wrote BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya on the social media platform X.
Sharif’s confirmation lends weight to earlier reports of a targeted Indian operation aimed at neutralising terror-linked infrastructure. The audacity and precision of the strike, corroborated by satellite imagery showing visible damage, have prompted renewed scrutiny of Pakistan’s military preparedness in the face of India’s growing strategic capabilities.
