Bangalore’s traffic may not be clearing up anytime soon.
Bangalore’s traffic may not be clearing up anytime soon. But the ride on BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses could give passengers something to do. These buses will soon have touchscreens with internet facility and wi-fi for laptops and phones for the public to use, free of charge.
Started by the BMTC and technology provider EAFT, the project has been christened ‘ICE on wheels’. ICE stands for Information, Communication and Entertainment.
As a pilot project, this facility has so far been set up in one air-conditioned Volvo bus that plies the route connecting the city to the airport. The length of this route and the heavy traffic along the way provides passengers with enough time to make use of the technology.
