The song that redefined national integration for Indians in the 80s is back on telly but this rebooted, re-engineered version of Mile Sur Mera Tumhara hasn’t gone down well. While the older edition featured national achievers from various sectors, Mile 2.0 seems to be a 16-minute long Bollywood promo. Cyberspace has been full of scathing comments. On the Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara community on Facebook, an irate member asked, ‘Where are da legends… Sachin, Narayan Murthy, Lata Mangeshkar, Kalam and Rajnikanth.’ Blogs too haven’t spared the creators. Blogger Prashant Mehta wrote, ‘Phir Mile Sur has nothing to do with national integration. The original was a pioneering work ... It gave birth to the new concept of embedded advertising.’ Another blogger, Krish Ashok, was more descriptive.

“The area under the curves of Shilpa, Deepika and Priyanka is not India, or its sur…,” he wrote.
