The Cold War hasn’t ended. It has just moved to the future in the bestselling videogame Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which has become the most pirated video game of 2009 within just two months of its launch. According to TorrentFreak, a popular blog that reports on activities related to BitTorrent and filesharing, there were 4.1 million unauthorised downloads of the game in the PC version alone.
The game revolves around defending the US from an attack by Russians, a plot that moves from Afghanistan to Rio de Janeiro and from Siberia to Washington DC. Modern Warfare 2, which launched in November 2009, broke records by selling 4.7 million units in the US and UK in the first 24 hours, pulling in revenues of $310 million.
