Teesta Setalvad, long-time agitator for justice to Gujarat riot victims, gets attacked by a fake Twitter account
Teesta Setalvad, long-time agitator for justice to Gujarat riot victims, is no stranger to personal attacks from the saffron brigade, but this time it’s coming from the virtual world. A fake Twitter account being operated in her name is libelous, juvenile, obscene and funny. The imposter’s first tweet appeared on 7August: ‘heard kasab wanted a rakhi. would love to tie him one but I wont. not because i don’t love him, but because rakhi is so Hindu…’ After 48 hours’ worth of tweets unfit for publication in Open, ‘Teesta’ returned to announce, ‘not taking up dawood’s offer. already too much shit on my platter’. The Twitter stream sources its jibes from the intervals between tweets: ‘Teesta’ is absent for hours between tweets, and readers are left wondering what she’s been up to. Attempts to reach the real Teesta Seetalvad for her views on the imposter were futile.
